Elizabeth Ryan

It is rare, if not impossible, to find a creative partner who is as versatile as Ryan. I have worked with him on a number of graphic design and website projects over the past four years and I remain amazed by his ability to both design in multiple platforms and explain this design process in clear, accessible language. Moreover, his enthusiasm for new ideas and sunny personality help keep things moving even during the most challenging of assignments. Working with him has been the secret to countless successes for our organization.

Ryan is a gifted designer and writer. He has a keen interest in the academic and theoretical aspects of design, informal learning and the arts, at both a national and an international level. Finally, Ryan King is one of the most talented and thoughtful graduate students I have encountered, in my three years of teaching. He brings to his work a noticeable creative touch, strong design skills, and a commitment to international engagement.

Ryan is a talented natural leader, a thoughtful listener, a creative thinker and a total do-er. His arsenal of design skills make him qualified to jump into any project and his approach is always enthusiastic while continuing to push the limits. He is just as eager to learn as he is to do the work.

Ryan is a creative, attentive, and skillful designer, a reliable project manager who is diligent about establishing and meeting deadlines, and he is an overall wonderful person.  What sets Ryan apart from others is not only his skill in design and facility with content organization, but also his ability to help his less-than-tech-savvy clients (e.g., people like me) to discover and cultivate their own design aesthetics. The notion of creating a website was initially overwhelming for me, but Ryan has made it a less daunting process, and I am extremely pleased with the outcome of our work together.

James Haddix

Ryan King has been the web designer and consultant for our Office of Continuing Dental Education website for the past nine years. During that time I have found him to be very professional and his work to be cutting edge, thereby giving our website a contemporary feel and appearance. He is highly motivated with great ideas to help solve our specific design and marketing needs.

Ryan King was invited to launch our Flickr photo sharing project for the very popular 2012 exhibition, African Cosmos: Stellar Arts at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art. As the lead on this media platform, he connected the museum with a global community of photographers, amateur and professional, from around the world during the run of the exhibition. His talent and dedication resulted in a great mashup of photographs of the African night sky that we were able to showcase in our main lobby pavilion. Thank you for an exceptional exhibition component that enhanced our public programming!

We have found Ryan King to be very dependable and hard working throughout all phases of the show: from accepting the art work, hanging the show, interacting with guests, and to the closing and dismantling. He has shown excellent verbal communication skills, was confident to offer suggestions and worked very well and had good rapport with other committee members. We appreciated all his help and would welcome him back gladly for our 35th anniversary show next year. Ryan would be an asset in any endeavor he chooses to pursue.

Ryan came recommended by the Corcoran College of Art + Design and was approached with the ambitious task of developing a new, modern design profile for the ADBC, with specific focus on website and print media. Ryan managed to create a design profile that emphasizes the characteristics of Danish design – minimalism and simplicity – while maintaining a symbolist link to the US, as the main platform for ADBC business operations. He has showed great interpersonal skills and ability to turn our ideas into reality. I have been very pleased to work with Ryan and would not hesitate to recommend him to any future employer.

During his time at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, Ryan King was seemingly everywhere: he served as a tutor in the Writing Center, as a teaching assistant for introductory art history classes, as a college docent in the museum, and so on. When Ryan gets involved with any sort of project, he puts everything into it. This work ethic is part of his DNA. Since his graduation, I’ve seen him frequently at art and design events around Washington. It’s my firm conviction that Ryan King has a great future in front of him. He’s not going to wait for opportunities; he’s going to make them happen with direct action.

Bonnie Bernau

During the extended time working with Ryan I had the opportunity to supervise him in a multitude of duties and situations. He was indispensable, with excellent attendance, and an ability to work independently, all with a professional attitude and a smile. Ryan embraced all his duties and impressed me with his willingness to work with all other museum staff, college-age peers, guards and docent volunteers as well as being the “public face” to visitors in the museum. In all capacities, Mr. King was very reliable and demonstrated a high work ethic. Some of his best qualities are good communication skills, punctuality, dependability and his pleasant attitude. His maturity is balanced with an inquisitive nature toward the world and a willingness to learn new things.
